For this blog I wrote about how in the month of February every week there was a new horror/thriller movie coming out. I went every week to see the new horror/thriller movie coming out because I am a fan of those types of movies. I originally wrote this at the end of February but I guess I did not post it. When I was looking over the blogs I have written it said that this particular blog was just a draft and was not posted. So now I am going back and posting this one I forgot to post.
This month there was a new horror/thriller movie coming out every week. I was fortunate enough to go see them all on their opening weekend. Here is what I thought about each one of them.
February 5 - Frozen, imdb: I really enjoyed this movie and thought it was a very effective thriller. It was able to be a great movie even though it only takes place at one location for most of the movie. Usually this can make the movie become boring by staying in one place for most of the movie. Another thing I liked was the man vs. wild element. In most thrillers someone is trying to escape a killer. In this movie a group of friends are stuck on a ski lift in the middle of a snow storm trying to survive from the bitter cold, frostbite, and the pack of wolves down below. Overall I though this was a very good movie and I definitely recommend it to everyone who loves a good and effective thriller.
February 12 - Wolfman, imdb: I have not seen any of the old werewolf movies or even a movie with a werewolf now that I think about it, so I did not have very much interest going in to the movie. I remember hearing how this movie has been delayed for almost 2 full years but I can't remember exactly why, I think It had to do with editing or special effects. After hearing that my expectations were lowered a little more because with that much delays it usually means the movie is not very good. Now after watching the movie I can definitely see why it has been delayed so much, after all the filming was done and they started editing they must how noticed like I did that there was not really a story. This was one of those movies were it feels like there was no purpose because there was no real character arc. So overall I thought the movie was not very good but I did really like the effects they were done well.
February 19 - Shutter Island, imdb: This movie I came in expecting a great movie and was not disappointed. The only disappointment I had was it was delayed from last November to this February which pretty much takes away all of it' s chances come awards season. Overall It was a great movie with great directing, acting, and writing. While you can pretty quickly figure out what is going on it's still great especially the journey to the end. I loved the movie so I went and bought the book it was based on, I haven't read it yet but I can't wait until I do. This is I movie that I would recommend to everyone who hasn't seen it, it's a great ride.
February 26 - The Crazies, imdb: This movie is a remake of a movie that I like, so coming in I was hoping that would make it different from the original but keep the same concepts that the original had. They did exactly that. They made it new and fresh but kept close to the source material. Overall I enjoyed the film, it was not amazing but it also was not bad. It was somewhere in the middle, I will probably watch again on dvd. The only problem I had with the movie was the pacing. The pacing didn't really feel right and I found my self bored at some parts but I still thought it was an entertaining movie.
